Hey JP, I've been using flash video encoder for some time to compress video to flv (Flash Video) format. It's a standalone application that comes with Flash. But this open source encoder you talk about on your blog seems really cool. I wonder if it's based on ffmpeg? I know mplayer uses that library and it's pretty amazing as far as what it can encode/decode (supports 237 codecs at least) .

Another thing I'm considering is just encoding to h.264 instead of flash video v.8 (On2 VP6) ... but youtube still uses flash 8, so flash 9 is not widespread yet. I'm about to move towards h.264 since it's becoming "the standard", meaning more devices/software supports it by default. The other question I have is what "envelope" to use ... because I have seen h.264 as .mp4, .avi, .mov, etc. So I'm thinking .mp4 is the most portable. Let's face it, encoding is a major pain.

So next thing I will do is look for an flv player that supports h.264 and mp4 files, unless I decide I'm getting ahead of myself. ;)
