As a video editor with 12 years editing under my belt, I was called upon to go out and shoot a story, not as easy as I thought it would be, in fact is was a disaster. I know what shots I wanted but I do not know how to make the camera do what I want. The company I am working for does NOT train freelance crew! The thing is though there is only one place I know that does, and the very good news is that I am going there next year, in 2009. It is a 3-4 year degree programme for journalism. The suggestion I make is that could the webcasts be available to registered users, as an aid to improve video journalism, my aim is that in the next few years to travel to the USA and observe and record in detail the production techniques at use in the USA and compare with what I know is the method here in South Africa, where we do not have a news culture of any kind. Thanks Justin Howard Durban, South Africa |
