About Aileen Gallagher
GALLAGHER, AILEEN is an assistant professor of multiplatform journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. Prior to joining the faculty in August, Gallagher was a senior editor at New York magazine's website, NYMag.com. There, she oversaw video and food coverage, ultimately expanding New York's food and restaurant blog, Grub Street, into five other cities. Gallagher grew up outside of Philadelphia and was a newspaper and history major at Syracuse University. She moved to New York City in 2000 and covered business, law, and media for various outlets, worked as a private investigator, and ran an online magazine, before landing at NYMag.com. Though she misses Brooklyn something awful, Gallagher loves teaching, driving her car in the hills around Syracuse, and finding money in her bank account at the end of the month.
- Was accepted for Dec 12-17 2010 Interactive Census Workshop.

The KDMC Census Workshop provided valuable background for Syracuse University's 2011 News21 project, funded by the Carnegie-Knight Initiative. We analyzed data to find an American community that experience significant demographic change in the past decade. We sent eleven students to Eastern Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley, an old white steel town on the way to becoming majority Hispanic. In addition to our own site, student were published in USA Today (print and online); TheAtlantic.com; and the Eastern Pennsylvania Business Journal.
