About Daniel Beekman

BEEKMAN, DANIEL is a full-time freelance reporter at the New York Daily News, a 600,000-circulation newspaper that focuses on local issues in New York City. He is based in the newspaper’s Bronx bureau, where he covers government, housing, the environment and crime. Beekman is a native of Seattle, WA and graduated with a degree in anthropology from Whitman College. Before joining the Daily News, he worked as a reporter for the Bronx Times, also in New York City. Previously, he wrote for several newspapers in Washington State. He was a Fulbright Research Fellow in China, where he blogged for The Seattle Times about Beijing’s 2008 Olympic Games. He plays soccer year-round, but wishes he instead played basketball in the NBA. He is a fan of most sports and speaks Mandarin Chinese.
