About Jane Elizabeth

ELIZABETH, JANE is the director of online news at The Virginian-Pilot, a 186,000-circulation newspaper that covers southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. She supervises a team of four online news reporters, along with multimedia staffers. Jane is a native of St. Louis, Mo., but as a “government brat” moved around a bit. Her first newspaper job was in Richmond, VA, at a newspaper that soon went out of business (although this apparently wasn’t her fault). She was an editor and reporter at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for ten years before joining The Virginian-Pilot in 2004. She began her job with Pilotonline.com on Jan. 1, 2008; and the paper was put up for sale the following day. This also apparently wasn’t her fault. Jane lives on a so-called island in Hampton, VA, with her significant other, who is communications director at the Virginia Marine Resources Commission. Her two children, who both hold communications degrees, work for a sports marketing firm in Chicago and a music marketing firm in Washington, D.C. She kayaks, bikes and hikes in her spare time, and has just finished a children’s book with a Pittsburgh illustrator.
