Multimedia and Technology Training At the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism
MICHALOWSKI, JIM is photography editor at The Daytona Beach News-Journal, the last Florida family-owned newspaper serving the state’s north-central Volusia and Flagler counties. He earned a bachelor’s in photojournalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and a master’s in professional studies in media and business administration jointly from Newhouse and the Martin J. Whitman School of Management in 1995. He formerly was a staff photographer and director of photography over six years at The Citizen in Auburn, NY, where, under his mentorship, one staffer earned NPPA R2 POY honors. He has been recognized with photography, picture editing and design honors from The Associated Press, National Press Photographers Association and Society for News Design as well as New York and Florida state press organizations. Michalowski was elected associate director of NPPA Region 6 in 2007 and is an active member in NLGJA, NPPA, SND, APPM. He lives in Ormond Beach, FL, with his partner, Jamie, and chocolate Labrador retriever, Gomez. He enjoys cycling, international travel, politics and cooking.
