About Julio Cortez

CORTEZ, JULIO is a photojournalist working just over a year for the Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers, a chain of four daily newspapers in Florida. Prior to that, Cortez performed several internships while obtaining a bachelor’s degree in journalism from California State University, Northridge. Such internships included the Associated Press Chicago bureau, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the San Angelo Standard-Times, and Al Dia/Dallas Morning News. His experience also includes work as a part-time sports reporter for the Los Angeles Daily News from 1999-2004. Cortez, who got his start as a journalist with his middle school student newspapers, is a Los Angeles Times Scholarship Fund honoree. He has been published nationally and internationally, and won the Spirit of the Workshop Award at the prestigious Missouri Photo Workshop, a destination workshop for photojournalists that has been around for more than half a century.
