About Kristen Young

Kristen Millares Young is studying fiction and creative nonfiction as a GO-MAP scholar at the University of Washington's Master of Fine Arts program. She is a co-founder of InvestigateWest, a nonprofit journalism center that produces in-depth multimedia reports about the environment, public health and social justice. InvestigateWest's work has appeared on MSNBC.com, seattlepi.com, KUOW-FM and in the Spokesman-Review.
The Ethics & Excellence in Journalism Foundation, The Bullitt Foundation, KUOW's Program Venture Fund, the Fund for Investigative Journalism and citizen members have all supported InvestigateWest's independent journalism in the Pacific Northwest. InvestigateWest has collaborated with the Center for Public Integrity and is a founding member of the Investigative News Network.
In her prior life as a Seattle Post-Intelligencer journalist, Kristen uncovered Port of Seattle waste and corruption that cost taxpayers millions of dollars, exposing cronyism that became the focus of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.
