About LAChung
CHUNG, L.A. is a writer, researcher and consultant working in the area of journalism innovation. She is currently administering the Digital Diversity Fund for the Center for Integration and Improvement of Journalism (CIIJ) at San Francisco State University. As former director of innovative programs a CIIJ, she organized and facilitated an October 2009 pilot conference “Rethinking Journalism Through the Lens of Diversity.” The conference focused on how to integrate diversity values in the emerging digital news media space. As a contract researcher on a 2009 report to the Hewlett Foundation, she looked at the business models being used by online news start-ups. She sits on the Northern California chapter board of the Society of Professional Journalists, which has produced the popular "Innovations in Journalism" event for three years. Chung has been a columnist and editor for the San Jose Mercury News and reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle and Hartford Courant (Connecticut). At one time, she enjoyed salsa dancing and photography, but not now that she is about to become an adoptive parent.
