About Robert Mc Clure

McCLURE, ROBERT’s first midlife crisis was all about environmental reporting. In his 30s he was the leading newspaper reporter crusading for restoring the Florida Everglades. That became the planet’s largest ecosystem restoration project. Awarded a prestigious Knight Wallace journalism fellowship at the University of Michigan, he concluded he must move west to tackle the really big environmental stories. Just before he turned 40 he landed at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. There he crusaded for a decade for restoration of Puget Sound, inspiring a major new eco-revitalization campaign. Then came his second midlife crisis: The P-I ceased publishing in March. McClure became a co-founder of InvestigateWest, a non-profit journalism studio that is out to preserve and modernize investigative and other in-depth reporting on the West, with a focus on the Pacific Northwest. The skills he learns at this session will make it possible to produce the first of a long line of multi-media stories for InvestigateWest.

Robert McClure, co-founder, InvestigateWest “The KDMC training was a crucial building block for me and the non-profit news organization I am helping to build. The part that was specifically most helpful to me was the ideas I got about how to think about which techniques and platforms are most appropriate for any given story. We're doing lots of stories. The question going in is: Which platforms are most important for *this* story? KDMC gave me a hugely needed and firm grounding in thinking about that question, which is foundational for any story we undertake.”
