ADAMS, ANN-MARIE is editor of The Hartford Guardian, an award-winning online news magazine that covers Connecticut's capital city: Hartford. Her responsibilities include writing, editing and training civic journalists. In September 2010, Adams won a national award for personal finance reporting from the International Center for Journalists. She has also won other awards, including a national award for first place reporting in education. Adams founded The Guardian in January 2004. It was the first of a new wave of nonprofit hyperlocal news publications in Connecticut. The quarterly publication switched to an online only publication in 2008. It covers government, politics, entertainment and social issues. Adams began her career as the editor of her college newspaper of Brooklyn College, The Kingsman. She has worked at the Times Herald-Record, The Norwich Bulletin, The Hartford Courant, People magazine and other local, regional and international publications. She covered education, government, politics and social issues. Her hobbies include watching movies, dancing and traveling.
