AASEN, ADAM is the higher education reporter at the Florida Times-Union, 180,000-circulation newspaper that covers Jacksonville and parts of North Florida. He started at the paper in October 2006 on the police beat before he was promoted to the new position in March 2008. He's played an active role in enhancing content online, including shooting and editing breaking news videos. A native of Indianapolis, he graduated with degrees in journalism and political science from Indiana University. During college, he served as editor in chief of the Indiana Daily Student, which won top national awards including the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Award in the category of Best All-Around Daily Student Newspaper. He's interned at SmartMoney Magazine, the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the U.S. Senate in Washington, DC. He enjoys volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters, playing basketball, watching Netflix and TiVo and reading books at coffee shops.
