About Ayana Contreras
I am passionate about sound and color. I work in radio, and was the host of Chicago Public Radio’s “Global Overnight” program. I am a host/producer at Vocalo.org where I host a show called "Reclaimed Soul". I have also worked with The Stockyard Institute (an experimental effort in mobile media, pedagogy, and a contemporary arts-based teaching).
I currently I teach Media Arts (specializing in podcasting) on Chicago's South Side through the Digital Youth Network. I also work with Porto Luz (a burgeoning, progressive community-based cultural center) in Event Programming.
Additionally, I'm a DJ, sound designer, music & culture blogger, and local music historian. I also love Chicago: where we’re going and where we’ve been.

Stories
Digital media stories published elsewhere by Ayana Contreras:
- Sidney Barnes on Stone Cold Feeling [edit]
A favorite record of mine, a B-Side from 1971, was written in Chicago, featured a Chicago artist and players, was recorded in Chicago, and was released on a Chicago label (Mercury). I had the opportunity to talk to the man who wrote it, Sidney Barnes, about it; and I flashed-back vicariously through him (he hadn't heard the track in thirty years).
