About Mary Meehan

MEEHAN, MARY is a feature writer at the Lexington Herald-Leader, an 115,000-circulation daily newspaper covering central and eastern Kentucky. During a career that spans 20 years, Meehan has been a newspaper reporter and magazine writer in Arizona, Florida and Kentucky. During a seven-year stint as a freelance writer and photographer, she covered everything from Florida theme parks to FDA manufacturing rules to wake boarding. A Kentucky native, she came home and to the Herald-Leader in 1999. Since then, she's covered a wide variety of topics, including projects on poor code enforcement of low-income rental property and childhood obesity. In October, she and Herald-Leader photographer David Stephenson published a six-day series called "A New Dawn?" The look at one young mother's journey through Kentucky's drug court program, that was four years in the making. Stephenson's multi-media for that series can
be viewed at www.heraldleaderphoto.com/dawn/. Meehan enjoys pottery, knitting, bad reality television and was recently the paper's dedicated expert on Hannah Montana with the help of daughter, Bailey.
