About Jackie Barron

JACKIE BARRON has been reporter for WFLA-TV, News Channel 8 in Tampa, FL since January 1998. She is the bureau chief of the station’s Sarasota bureau, which is the epicenter of WFLA’s converged news operations. Barron covers daily, breaking news stories and is in charge of special projects for News Channel 8. She works closely with its convergence partners, the Tampa Tribune and TBO.com. In 2001, she received the Society of Professional Journalist Award of Excellence in Spot News for her coverage of the “Carlton Fire,” and the organization’s National Journalism Award for Investigative for Reporting for her story entitled “The Gang Trap.” Before joining News Channel 8, Barron worked as a reporter at WWSB-TV in Sarasota, and was an anchor, reporter and producer at WHAG-TV in Hagerstown, MD. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications from the University of Florida in Gainesville.
