About Bill Lascher

is a Portland, OR-based freelancer interested in the environment, energy, transportation, disaster planning and related sciences. Lascher co-founded and helps run the Oregon News Incubator — which supports freelance and independent journalists. He received a master’s in specialized journalism from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School, where he studied science writing, environmental policy, global civil society and sustainable cities. His master's project explored the evolution of the Los Angeles transit system. Passionate about literary journalism, Lascher graduated from Oberlin College and the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, ME, where he later launched the community-oriented Portland Pigeon. His first professional journalism gig was as a technology and legal affairs reporter for the Pacific Coast Business Times, after which he became editor of the alt-weekly Ventura County Reporterr. A Ventura, CA native, Lascher enjoys travel writing, playing pinball whenever possible, hiking and train journeys.
