About Vera Chan
CHAN, VERA works as an editor on the Buzz team for Yahoo!. She writes radio broadcast scripts for internal spokespeople and online "logs" on what the world is searching for, ranging from personalities (from Britney Spears to Nancy Pelosi), events (FIFA, elections) and general popular culture (game consoles, movie openings). Before signing on to Yahoo permanently this year, she wrote entertainment and feature pieces for outlets such as the San Jose Mercury News, local city and regional magazines including 7x7 and Diablo, SFGate and the San Francisco Business Times. Prior to that, she worked five years as events editor and staff writer at the Contra Costa Times in Walnut Creek, CA. A University of California, Berkeley graduate twice-over (Bachelor's degree in mass communications and Master's in Journalism), Chan has served as co-president of the Asian American Journalists Association’s San Francisco chapter, and is also a member of the East Bay Press Club and Journalism and Women Symposium, a national organization for women in journalism.
