About Carlos Chavez

CHAVEZ, CARLOS is the deputy photo editor at the Arizona Republic in Phoenix working with a staff of 27 photographers. He works with newsroom editors to plan A1 content, oversees assignment scheduling and carries out photo editing duties. Chavez was recently appointed to train and lead a group of journalists as part of the Republic’s new Visual Center for online multimedia. The multimedia team uses Avid, iMovie and Soundslides. They are currently training in Final Cut Express. Chavez has worked for the Desert Sun, The Fresno Bee’s Our Times and Vida en el Valle as well as the Los Angeles Times’ Our Times. He’s been teaching Adobe Photoshop and photography at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix for five semesters and is a Marine Corps veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
