About Chris Shields

SHIELDS, CHRIS is the sports desk chief at the St. Cloud Times, a 30,000-circulation newspaper that covers Central Minnesota. His responsibilities include section design, editing, headline writing and systems/templates work. He works with sports reporters to develop special sections, and has been involved in conversion work for all sections of the newspaper. He also posts content online. Shields grew up in Iowa and Missouri, and earned his journalism degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He worked as a page designer, copy editor and paginator at the Columbia Missourian before graduating, and worked at the Charlotte Observer (North Carolina) as a section designer after graduation. He joined the St. Cloud Times as a copy editor and news section designer and soon rose to primary 1A designer and nation/world editor. Shields enjoys listening to music (mostly classic rock from the 1960s and 1970s), reading (biographies, especially) and studying history.
