About Deirdre English

Deirdre English's avatar image ENGLISH, DEIRDRE has taught at the Graduate School of Journalism at University of California, Berkeley since 1997, and directed the Felker Magazine Center since 2008. In her class, student editors produce a print magazine titled Brink, which has won numerous regional and national awards. In 2010 she published a digital version of Brink using a customized Word Press platform [http:/www.brinkmag.org]. In 2012 she plans to launch a multimedia version of Brink. English is a former Editor of Mother Jones Magazine, and has contributed written and edited work on a wide array of subjects in the fields of investigative reporting, cultural politics, gender studies, and public policy. In 2004 she completed a revision and a new afterword for “Her Own Good: Two Centuries of the Experts’ Advice to Women” (anchor), co-authored with Barbara Ehrenreich. She lives in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco, enjoys travel and has been to Vietnam, Rumania, and Mexico in recent years.
