About Daniel Gaines

GAINES, DANIEL is managing editor, operations, at latimes.com, the website for the Los Angeles Times. He has overall responsibility for the data interactivity group, editorial workflow, technology liaison and recruitment. He also works on metrics and search optimization efforts. He had several other jobs at the site since 2000; before then, he was markets editor in the Times’ Business section, where he was responsible for financial and market coverage. Gaines joined The Times in 1993 after a decade as a reporter, editor and news executive at The Press-Enterprise of Riverside County, California, and a stint teaching journalism at California State University, Fullerton. Gaines still teaches, now at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communications.
