About Diana Marszalek

MARSZALEK, DIANA is the co-editor of theLoop, a hyper-local news site that reaches 35,000 readers a month covering five communities in lower Westchester County, outside New York City. Marszalek also writes a column covering the local TV news business for TVNewsCheck.com, an online publication covering the business of TV broadcasting. At theLoop, Marszalek is involved in all aspects of the independently owned publication’s news and operations sides. In addition to writing material, Marszalek works with contributors, is active in long-range planning and promotes and sells the publication as well. Her bi-weekly TVNewsCheck column, “Air Check,” covers all aspects of local TV news, from programming and to sales. A native Californian, Marszalek has lived for the last 10 years in New York, with her husband, two kids and greyhound.

Though ultimately I may use some of the tools we learned more and some less, the way the trainers put using the technology into the larger context of transforming the delivery of news in new and successful ways was hugely valuable. While I have long heard about the importance of components of this new age of journalism -- mobile, user tools -- I was lacking in knowing how to use them to engage consumers to the next level and, ultimately, what doing that means to growing and sustaining the business.
