About Donna Lovell

Donna Lovell is a breaking news online editor at the San Jose Mercury News, a 250,000-circulation newspaper with Web site that attracts 3.8 million unique visitors a month. Her responsibilities include editing staff and wire stories written for the Web site that often are repurposed or updated for the next day’s newspaper, plus creating photo slideshows, online maps and databases to enhance the presentation. Lovell is a decades-long San Jose resident who still considers the Midwest “home,” having grown up in Minnesota and worked in Chicago and Madison, WI, before moving west. She has a bachelor’s degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Her long journalism career includes being one of the pioneers who made the Mercury News the first newspaper online in 1993. She enjoys reading, gardening, knitting and hiking.
