About Elly Oxman
is the night picture editor at the San Francisco Chronicle, a 240,000-circulation newspaper covering Northern California. Her responsibilities include selecting images for the A, Metro and Sports sections and collaborating with the designers on layout. She also monitors the toning of images in these sections. Additionally, she helps to build daily picture galleries for the new Chronicle iPad application. Originally from Puerto Rico, Oxman received a bachelor’s degree in studio art (photography) from Wellesley College in 1990. She returned to school in 2001 and graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. After picture-editing internships at the St. Petersburg Times and The Star-Ledger (Newark, NJ), Oxman landed her first newspaper job at the San Jose Mercury News, where she was the night picture editor. She joined the staff of The Chronicle in 2009. She enjoys being outdoors, yoga, reading and cooking.
