About Erika Checkhayden

HAYDEN, ERIKA CHECK is a senior reporter for the science journal Nature. Based in San Francisco, Hayden currently covers biology, medicine, biotechnology, and Bay Area science. Hayden formerly worked at Newsweek Magazine, NY, where she covered science, medicine and breaking news. After joining Nature's staff in 2001, Hayden worked from Washington, DC, for five years before moving to San Francisco in 2006. Hayden freelances for various publications, including Wired, Discover, and Popular Mechanics. She has also taught in the master's program in science writing at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD; at the Banff Science Communications Program in Canada; and at the Santa Fe Science Writing Workshop. She enjoys opera and the outdoors and plays soccer with a women's team in San Francisco.
