About George Hicks

HICKS, GEORGE is technical director/producer of special projects for WBUR Boston (NPR affiliate). Over the last 10 years Hicks has produced and edited more than 40 hour-long “Inside Out” documentaries, reporter series and other special broadcasts. WBUR's “Inside Out Documentaries” unit has won many RTNDA, PRNDI and AP awards, as well as DuPont-Columbia, RFK Memorial, Overseas Press Club and American Academy for the Advancement of Science honors. Recently Hicks worked as field reporter/producer for “Here & Now,” WBUR and PRI's daily national radio newsmagazine. Working at WBUR since 1997, Hicks served as technical director for NPR's “The Connection”, “Car Talk”, “Only A Game”, “On Point” and PRI's “Here & Now”. Previously, Hicks spent 15 years as a freelance engineer/producer, recording diverse jazz and classical artists such as Stan Getz with the New England Conservatory Orchestra, Keith Jarrett with the Handel & Haydn Society, and The Klezmer Conservatory Band with Yitzhak Perlman. He produced the first 35 weekly episodes of “11 Central Ave”, the groundbreaking public radio comic strip. In addition to composing and performing theme music for “11 Central Ave”, Hicks also provided incidental music for “Testing DNA & the Death Penalty: Inside Out”, “Haunting the Quabbin: Inside Out” and “Snakeheads and Slavery: Inside Out”.
