About David Barreda
BARREDA, DAVID is the director of visuals for ChinaFile, an editorial publication by the Center on US-China Relations at the Asia Society in New York. In this role, he is producing and editing work on a new journalism-focused website covering news from China. Now a recovering newspaper photojournalist, David has worked at the San Jose Mercury News, Denver Rocky Mountain News, (NH) Valley News and the Miami Herald covering general news, features, culture, sports and parades but his real interests are in environmental reporting, investigative reporting, and immigration issues. David studied Geography at Middlebury College and journalism at the University of Missouri. Since his move away from San Francisco, he misses outings to the gourmet ghetto, Mission hole-in-the-wall restaurants, Berkeley Bowl shopping runs and the Ferry Building farmers market.

We had some numbers that told the increase in exam takers over a 10 year period. I plotted them in protovis and added some labels and put it in the sidebar. This was the first time I did this on the site, but I think it was effective to show the data rather than only right about it.
