About Jennifer Rauch
Jennifer Rauch is a journalism professor at Long Island University, Brooklyn, an 11,000-student campus just one subway stop from downtown Manhattan. Rauch teaches courses in news writing and reporting, magazine editing and design, online and multimedia journalism, new media and society, as well as special topics such as the Daily Show and YouTube. Before joining LIU in 2004, she was a professional journalist and publication editor for seven years for the Philadelphia City Paper, China Daily, Morning Call, American Red Cross and Lehigh University, among others. Rauch earned her PhD at Indiana University-Bloomington and her master’s degree from Temple University. Her research on news coverage, news audiences and alternative media models (e.g. the UN-sponsored Inter Press Service, civic and citizen journalism, independently published zines) has been published in various scholarly journals. She enjoys bird-watching, leaf-peeping, indie-rock music, micro-roasted coffee, crossword puzzles, foreign travel and all things artisanal.
