About Janette Neuwahl
NEUWAHL, JANETTE is an education reporter at the Daytona Beach News-Journal, a 100,000-circulation daily that is now the last family-owned newspaper in the state. Neuwahl reports on the challenges facing students, teachers and administrators in the Flagler County school district, which is now boasting the largest growth rates in the Sunshine State. She also reports on poverty and diversity issues whenever possible, and often fills in to cover the city of Flagler Beach. Neuwahl is a native of Miami and graduated with a degree in Journalism from Northwestern University in 2005. Her first byline in a daily newspaper came in high school during an internship at The Miami Herald. The experience inspired Neuwahl to go to college and learn the craft of news writing, sharpening her skills through several internships including stints from Birmingham, Alabama to Cape Town, South Africa. In her time off work (does that really ever happen?), Janette enjoys kayaking, photography, going to Indie music concerts and traveling.
