About John Fleming
FLEMING, JOHN is editor at large for The Anniston Star, a 28,000-circulation daily in northeast Alabama. During his time at The Star, he has worked as the editorial page editor and associate editor. In this current job, he works on investigative stories, many of them dealing with killings from the civil rights era. He also writes frequently on Southern politics, the regional economy and the environment. Fleming is a native of Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in liberal arts before getting his masters in journalism from Columbia University. Before joining The Star in 1998, Fleming spent five years covering Africa, with his last position being West Africa correspondent for Reuters. He likes to fish and run marathons and visit California, a place he twice called home.
