About Kathy Adams
ADAMS, KATHY is the Virginia Beach public safety reporter at The Virginian-Pilot, a 152,198-circulation newspaper that covers southeastern Virginia and northeast North Carolina. She covers the police, fire and emergency medical services departments for Virginia Beach, the commonwealth’s largest city, as well as criminal justice and other public safety issues. Adams is a native of El Paso, TX, and the daughter of a Navy commander. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in journalism and concentrations in Spanish and business. Before The Virginian-Pilot, she interned as a features writer at The News Journal in Wilmington, DE, and as a business writer at The Austin American-Statesman in Austin, TX. She also has written freelance articles for Latino Magazine, a national publication based in Austin, TX. At the Pilot, she covered the military and business before becoming a public safety writer in March 2009. Outside of work, Adams has taught dance classes and dances with a local performing arts studio. She also plays in a recreational kickball league, volunteers for the Rotary Club’s Reading Is Fundamental program and enjoys going to the beach and spending time with her black Lab-border collie, Tyson.
