Multimedia and Technology Training At the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism
FONG, KATHARINE is deputy managing editor at the San Jose Mercury News. She currently directs its convergence efforts, including the website, multimedia, new ventures and media partnerships. During her years at the Mercury News, and its sister paper the Miami Herald, she has been responsible for features and arts and entertainment coverage, the Sunday magazine, and business and lifestyle sections. She was managing editor of Mother Jones magazine when it was named "best in the business" by American Journalism Review in 1994. In 2007 Katharine received the Asian American Journalists Association Executive Leadership Program award for outstanding leadership, and in 2006 she was a McCormick Tribune fellow. She has a master’s degree in classical archaeology from Antioch University, and bachelor’s degree in sociology and film theory from UC Berkeley. Fong lives in the Bay Area with her husband, two children and parrot.
