About Kathleen Lavine
is the only staff photographer at the Denver Business Journal, a weekly business newspaper covering metro Denver with a circulation of 16,000. She has been there for 10 years. Lavine grew up in Denver, CO and studied journalism at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA. While at the university, the photo editor at the Spokesman-Review in Spokane (who was also an adjunct at the school) hired her as a stringer to shoot Friday night high school football games. This foray into photojournalism made an impression. After graduating, she was hired as a lab tech (yes, developing and printing in the darkroom) at the newspaper and eventually landed a photography internship there. Wanting to move back to Colorado, she worked at the Boulder Daily Camera and eventually the Denver Business Journal. She enjoys competing in triathlons and her favorite is the half ironman distance. She lives in Golden, CO with her husband and two dogs.
