About Kara Spak
Kara Spak is a news reporter at the Chicago Sun-Times who covers an array of topics including museums, zoos, higher education and crime. She was hired by the Chicago Sun-Times as a features reporter in 2007 after working for seven years at the Daily Herald, a newspaper covering a large swath of suburban Chicago. Her Daily Herald beats included Cook County courts and several municipalities. She was one of three journalists sent by the newspaper to China for a project on immigration to the suburbs. She also has covered education for the Aurora, Ill. Beacon News and worked at the weekly Schaumburg Review. A native of Pittsburgh, she is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She enjoys exploring Chicago’s neighborhoods and restaurants on and off the clock, as well as triathlons and karaoke.
