About Kathy Vey
Kathy Vey is editor in chief of OpenFile.ca, Canada's first collaborative local news website. OpenFile began in Toronto in May 2010 and has since launched sites in Vancouver and Ottawa. Previously, Kathy was team editor in charge of training and development at the Toronto Star, Canada's largest newspaper. One of her first newsroom jobs was in the late 1970s, transcribing harness-racing results from fuzzy and primitive fax transmissions into a video display terminal. (Calling it a computer would be too kind.) After joining the Star in 1988, she worked in both management and guild roles, including deputy city editor, news editor, assistant national editor and restaurant critic. She has extensive experience as a trainer and spent 2008 shepherding scores of print journalists through a week-long, in-house multimedia boot camp.
