About Laura Varon Brown
VARON BROWN, LAURA has been with the Detroit Free Press for 19 years and currently acts as the audience editor – focused on identifying new audience opportunities online and in print as well as helping to transition readers onto digital platforms and through changes in print. This role encompasses a number of roles – from exploring niche Web site development to oversight of Detroit.MomsLikeMe.com – a Web site where women meet to talk, share and navigate life together. This role also spearheads efforts to involve readers in special coverage efforts. Social networking and reader submitted photos and blogs are also becoming more prominent in the Free Press in print and online. Varon Brown attended Central Michigan University majoring in journalism with a political science minor. She is also a 2002 graduate of Leadership Oakland and a 2005 graduate of the Center for Women’s Leadership. Varon Brown lives in Bloomfield Township, MI, is married to Jeff Brown and has three children, stepson Jacob, 29, who attends Baker College and daughters Molly, 19, a sophomore at Michigan State University and Emma, 16, who attends Birmingham schools.
