About Laylan Connelly

CONNELLY, LAYLAN is a reporter and columnist at the Orange County Register, a 300,000-circulation newspaper that covers Orange County, CA. Connelly is a city reporter who covers Laguna Beach and Dana Point, both affluent coastal communities that offer a wide range of political, environmental and human-interest stories. She also writes a weekly column highlighting the beach culture along the county’s 42-mile coast, featuring anything from lifeguard tryouts, to excuses surfers give to their boss when a good swell hits. The Orange County Register hired her as an intern in 2002 while she was obtaining her journalism degree at the University of Southern California, and soon after hired her at one of their community papers, the Irvine World News. She joined the Register staff about three years ago. She enjoys traveling, and has ventured to places such as a Buddhist temple in the mountains of Vietnam, to the tallest waterfall in the world in Venezuela.
