About Lisa Fernandez

Lisa Fernandez's avatar image FERNANDEZ, LISA has worked at the San Jose Mercury News since 1999, covering crime, city hall and her favorite beat of all, cultural affairs. She currently is a breaking news reporter who starts her shift at 7 a.m. That beat often has her snapping a smartphone shot of a fire, union protest or car wreck and instantly posting that photo to mercurynews.com. A few years back, Fernandez also was one of the few reporters to shoot her own video to accompany stories. A self-described Luddite, Fernandez now uses Facebook to track down sources, just as easily as she would open the white pages. She lives in Oakland with her husband (the editor at the East Bay Express) and her two children, ages 5 and 8.
