About Lil Swanson

SWANSON, LIL has been the Online Editor for The Detroit News since October. She runs the Web site during the day and serves as liaison with the rest of the newsroom for breaking news coverage and special projects. In addition, she is involved in organizing and leading staff training. Previously, she was the Project Director for Associated Press Managing Editor's NewsTrain, a three-year, Knight-funded program that taught editing, management and online skills to more than 3,000 mid-level editors across the nation. She worked at The Philadelphia Inquirer for 18 years in many roles, including AME/ Ombudsman; Features Editor; Recruiter and Senior Editor for Training. She has two degrees from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, and is a native of Sharon, PA, a former steel town north of Pittsburgh. She and her husband, Dave, are avid rollerbladers and have skated 18 trails from California to Massachusetts. They like to hike in the woods with their new dog, Ranger, and are enjoying exploring the Michigan outdoors.
