About Margaret Bernstein

Margaret Bernstein's avatar image BERNSTEIN, MARGARET covers philanthropy for The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, Ohio’s largest daily. A Los Angeles native, she earned a bachelors degree in journalism from the University of Southern California. In her 22 years at The Plain Dealer, she has been a columnist, women’s editor, feature writer and now metro beat reporter. She recently won the 2011 Ohio Society of Professional Journalists first-place award for minority issues reporting, and for profiles of the families of 11 Cleveland women slain by a serial killer. A firm believer in the power of mentoring, Bernstein was named National Big Sister of the Year in 2000 for her work with two Cleveland girls. In 2007, Bernstein collaborated with the popular Three Doctors, bestselling authors of “The Pact”, to write their follow-up memoir on fatherlessness, titled “The Bond.” Bernstein is married and is the mother of two teen-agers who are happy they can use the car while she’s in California.
