About Mitch Mckenney
MITCH MCKENNEY is the deputy metro editor for the Akron (OH) Beacon Journal. Since joining the paper in 1998, he has supervised the enterprise/computer assisted reporting, Census and Kids First teams. His Census team won first place for Explanatory Journalism in the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists’ 2002 competition. Previously, he was the assistant metro editor, supervising weekend coverage and general assignment reporters at The Palm Beach (FL) Post. He also worked as a reporter for the Times-Union in Rochester, NY. McKenney is an adjunct instructor at his alma mater, Kent State University, where he teaches newswriting in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He has a Bachelor’s degree in News.
