About Maria Ebrahimji
Ms. Maria Ebrahimji is Director and Executive Editorial Producer for Network Booking at CNN. Based at CNN’s global headquarters in Atlanta, she is responsible for leading a team of editorial producers in guest coverage, newsgathering, and story planning for CNN USA’s special events, breaking news, and multi-platform programming. Her career at CNN spans a decade, and has granted her the priviledge of working on some of the network’s most important breaking news and feature programming initiatives, including: the Egypt Air Crash (1999); McVeigh Execution; Elections 2000 & 2004; Florida Recount; Elian Gonzalez; 9/11; Iraq War; Israeli-Lebanon Conflict; the Papal Enclave; Asian Tsnuami; Pakistani Earthquake; World Refugee Day; Live Earth; Hurricane Katrina; CNN Heroes; UN General Assemblies; and CNN International’s landmark townhall series, “CNN Connects.”
Maria is a former Editorial Producer for CNN International, where she worked on high-profile programs such as “Your World Today”, “Q&A,” “Diplomatic License,” and “Inside Africa.” Prior to her position at CNN International, Maria was lead editorial producer for CNN US weekend programming, producing elements, research, and writing for guest segments on current and feature domestic news stories.
Among the various awards Maria has shared with her colleagues are a 2006 Myers Media Innovation and Creativity Award for CNN’s Inspire Summit; an Alfred i.Dupont-Columbia Award for CNN’s Coverage of Asian Tsunami; a George Foster Peabody Award for CNN’s Coverage of Hurricane Katrina; and a 2007 NABJ Award of Excellence in the Television-Public Affairs Program category for CNN Connects: “The New South Africa.”
At CNN, Maria is a member of the CNN Diversity Council, and a member of Turner Asia, Turner Women Today, and Turner’s Green Task Force. Maria is also an advisory board member of the Emory Development Institute, on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Press Club, a member of the Southern Center for International Studies, and on the Alumnae Advisory Board of Tau Chapter, Alpha Chi Omega, Inc. She is a past participant in the Manfred Woerner Seminar, a National Press Foundation “World Hot Spots” seminar, the Aspen Young Professionals program, and most recently the East-West Center’s Sr. Journalism Seminar in Southeast Asia.
Maria holds a BA in Mass Communications from Brenau Women’s College and a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from Georgia State University.
