About John Mecklin
MECKLIN, JOHN has been the editor of High Country News, a Colorado-based magazine that reports on the politics, environment and culture of the American West, since November 2006. For most of the preceding 12 years, he served as head editor at SF Weekly and Phoenix New Times, newsweeklies that specialized in narrative journalism. In an earlier incarnation, he was an investigative reporter at the Houston Post; he also covered the Persian Gulf War from Saudi Arabia and Iraq for the paper. In the middle of his journalism career, he earned a Master in Public Administration degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He, his wife, and his two children now live amid the vineyards of Paonia, CO, with much of the best skiing in the world less than two hours away.
