About Mark Edgar

EDGAR, MARK is deputy managing editor of The Dallas Morning News, a 500,000-circulation daily in Dallas, Texas. He oversees the Metro, Texas and Southwest, National, International and Political desks at The News, where he has been a reporter and editor since 1984. He also supervises part of the newsroom’s staff assigned to its online breaking news department, on the paper’s Web site, dallasnews.com. In Berkeley, he was a visiting instructor, for two terms, at the Institute for Journalism Education’s Summer Program for Minority Journalists. An Illinois native, he attended McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale before joining the ranks of professional journalists at a daily newspaper — which folded the day he arrived. He got a new job the next day with the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, but it, too, went under — four years later. From there, it was off to Texas.
