About Mary Forgione
Mary Forgione is a deputy web editor for features for the Los Angeles Times, an innovative position that was created a little over a year ago to help the newsroom transition from print to web. As part of her daily routine, Mary edits and creates web-only content, builds photo galleries, writes and produces blog posts, Twitters, troubleshoots problems/corrections in online stories, etc. It is the first time in her 20-plus years that Mary has no print component to her journalism job. She is a native of Connecticut who started her career in California at the Glendale News-Press and worked for many small dailies in Southern California before coming to the Times. During her tenure at the Times, she has been a copy chief on the features desk and a deputy editor who helped launch the short-lived (2 years) Outdoors section of the paper. When she isn’t standing around in the newsroom (Mary edits at a standing desk), she’s out hiking the local mountain trails or mentoring young inner-city girls.
