About Peter Haley

HALEY, PETER is a news photographer at The News Tribune, a 100,000 circulation daily in Tacoma, WA. He earned a bachelor’s in physical science from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1979. He was self-taught in photography and got newspaper jobs in Ashland, OR, Bellevue, WA, and then Tacoma in 1986. He enjoys the documentary style of photojournalism from war and forest-fires to school children and the homeless. Notable assignments include the 1989 earthquake in San Fransisco, Kosovar refugees in Albania in 1999, and embeds in Iraq in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Passions include downhill skiing, world travel and Irish coffee. He has intermittently been a foster-parent with wife Toni C. Haley in their Seattle home. Contact: peter.haley@thenewstribune.com
