About Phuong Ly
LY, PHUONG is a 2010-11 Knight Fellow at Stanford University, studying how to better connect journalists with immigrant community leaders and nonprofits that serve immigrants. She is a freelance journalist whose articles have appeared in the Washington Post Magazine, the Washington Monthly, People, Business 2.0, Bloomberg News and other publications. For seven years, she was a reporter at the Washington Post, writing about immigrant communities. A portfolio of her stories was included in the book “Best Newspaper Writing 2006-2007.” She has received fellowship grants from the Institute for Journalism and Justice, International Reporting Project and Wesleyan University. She began her journalism career at the Charlotte Observer, where she wrote about the remaking of public housing. She was born in Vietnam and grew up in North Carolina.
