About Richard Burkhart

BURKHART, RICHARD is a staff photographer at the Savannah Morning News, a 60,000-circulation daily newspaper in Southeast Georgia. His daily photography assignments range from enterprise and breaking news to features and sports. He works closely with designers on photo illustrations and produces videos, slideshows and photo galleries for savannahnow.com. For several years, he has been the lead sports photographer, working closely with the sports editor and reporters to plan upcoming coverage, special projects and online content. A native of Swansboro, NC, Burkhart graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2000 with an MFA in Photography. He was hired by the Morning News after completing an internship and has worked for the publication since. He has won several awards while at the Morning News, including numerous photo and illustration awards from the Georgia Press Association and the Georgia Associated Press.
