About Ron Shawgo
SHAWGO, RON is the enterprise editor at The Journal Gazette, a 68,000 daily, 111,000-Sunday circulation newspaper that covers northeast Indiana. His responsibilities include planning and editing daily enterprise stories and 1A in-depth pieces for the Sunday newspaper. He guides a staff of three reporters and occasionally a fourth who is pulled from his or her beat to learn the basics of computer-assisted reporting. Shawgo is a native of Illinois and graduated with a bachelor's degree from the Indiana University School of Journalism. His first newspaper job was in Bloomington, IN, where he worked two years as a part-time general assignment reporter at The Herald Telephone, now The Herald Times. He then covered the police, court and education beats for The Daily Press in Newport News, VA, for 10 years before joining The Journal Gazette as projects reporter in 1995. He enjoys playing guitar and jamming with friends.
