About Ryan Atkinson
ATKINSON, RYAN is a sports writer at The Joplin Globe, a 30,000-circulation paper covering southwestern Missouri, southeastern Kansas and northeastern Oklahoma. He covers prep sports in all three states and is the beat writer for Pittsburg State University, a perennial Division II football power. He also leads the sports desk two nights a week. Atkinson is a graduate of Pittsburg State University and worked at The Morning Sun, a daily newspaper in Pittsburg, throughout his college career. He spent time at The Tulsa World as a sports copy editor before returning for his second stint in Joplin. He enjoys playing the guitar, writing and performing his music in the smoky bars of southwest Missouri. He also enjoys fishing, kayaking and trying to keep up with his Jack Russell terrier.
